Our Story / 私たちのストーリー
Houston Nihongo Kai (HNK) started back in the 90’s with the idea of bringing together people in the greater Houston area who share a love for Japan. We’re a growing community where native Japanese speakers and eager learners meet to chat, laugh, and learn from one another. From sharing tips on life in Japan to navigating complex grammar, our community is built on real connections and mutual support.
ヒューストン日本語会（HNK）は、「日本が好きな人たちが集まれる場所を作りたい」というシンプルな思いから始まりました。当会は、机に向かって勉強するお堅い教室ではありません。日本語のネイティブスピーカーと、熱心な学習者が対等な立場で集まり、おしゃべりを楽しみ、笑い合い、お互いから学び合う草の根のコミュニティです。地元の美味しいラーメン屋の情報交換から、奥深い文法の話まで、リアルなつながりと支え合いを大切にしています。
Our Mission / 私たちのミッション
Our mission is to bridge cultures right here in Texas. We strive to create an accessible, low-pressure space where anyone can immerse themselves in Japanese language and traditions. We want to empower beginners to take their first steps without fear, help advanced speakers keep their skills sharp, and give native speakers a welcoming place to share their culture and feel at home in Houston.
私たちの目的は、ここテキサスの地で異なる文化をつなぐ架け橋となることです。誰もが気軽に日本語や日本の伝統に触れられる、プレッシャーのない自由な空間づくりを目指しています。初級者が一歩を踏み出すのを応援し、上級者がスキルを磨き続けられる場を提供するとともに、ネイティブスピーカーの方々が安心して自分の文化を共有し、ヒューストンを第二の故郷のように感じられる温かい場所でありたいと考えています。

Casual Language Exchange / カジュアルな言語交換
We host regular meetups focused on real, everyday conversation. You’ll practice speaking with native speakers and fellow advanced learners in an encouraging, low-stakes setting.
退屈な問題集は一旦おいておきましょう！当会では、日常の生きた会話に焦点を当てた定期的なミートアップを開催しています。プレッシャーのないリラックスした環境で、ネイティブや他の学習者と一緒に楽しく会話の練習ができます。
Cultural Experiences & Outings / 文化体験＆アウトドアイベント
Culture is meant to be lived! Whether we are doing a karaoke party, a DIY mochi night, or trying out hands-on workshops like calligraphy, we bring Japanese traditions to life in Houston.
文化は体験してこそ楽しいもの。お花見ピクニックや日本映画の鑑賞会、書道などのワークショップを通じて、ヒューストンにいながら日本の伝統やトレンドを肌で感じられるイベントを企画しています。
